THE THREADS INTERNATIONAL TIMES 12" ON INTERVALLUM MUSIC LABEL 2024.
Formed in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, in the summer of 1982 by Paul Hooper-Keeley (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar) and Tim Mitchell-Smith (Bass/Backing Vocals), The Threads return with a new 4-song 12” EP recorded in February 2024. The band includes David Abrahams-Edley (Vocals/Hammond/Lead Guitar) and Emma Page (Drums/Vocals) who both played with The Threads in the mid/late eighties and beyond.
The four songs include on this 12” EP all date back to that mid-eighties line-up – played ‘live’ many times, with three of the four songs demoed, although none were properly recorded at the time.
With their organ and Rickenbacker groove (and occasional brass section), The Threads built up a strong following on the Mod/Garage/Psychedelic scene back in the day, with recordings produced by Ed Ball (The Times, TV Personalities etc.) at the Slaughterhouse Studios in Driffield and released by Unicorn Records on the first Phase III EP in 1986 and also forming the spine of their ‘As Yet Untitled’ LP released by Unicorn in 1987.
Detour Records released The Threads CD anthology, ‘Step Back In Time’ in 2001, and recent years have seen a double ‘live’ album of 1980s shows, and a triple rarities album, released on Germany’s Time For Action Records.
Furthermore, recent box sets including ‘ Millions Like Us - The Story Of The Mod Revival 1977-1989’ and ‘Into Tomorrow - The Spirit Of Mod 1983-2000’ have included recordings by The Threads, finally recognising their contribution to the music scene and youth subculture of the time and now bringing them to a wider audience.
