Detour Records are proud to announce after 30 years of waiting, the release by Leatherheads finest band, The Heads’ new album ‘STILL Nothing To Do In A Town Like Leatherhead’.
The Head were formed out of the ashes of Punk and with the trappings of Mod, in the summer of 1978 in Leatherhead, Surrey.
The album features the ‘infamous’ double A sided single and now highly sought after collectors item ‘Nothing To Do In A Town Like Leatherhead’ / ‘University’79’.
The original single was released, as a limited pressing of 1000 on the 12 January 1980, on the Ellie Jay label as a
Molebeat Production.
‘Nothing To Do In A Town Like Leatherhead’ became a local hit and ‘University’79’ was regularly played by John Peel on Radio One and by London’s Capital Radio.
Now valued at over £60 by the Rare Record Price Guide 2008, the single sporadically appears on e-bay to this day and regularly sells for over twice the valuation price.
The album ‘STILL Nothing To Do In A Town Like Leatherhead’, all digitally remastered includes all The Head recordings from 1979 to 1981.
It also features the second Ellie Jay single ‘Middle Class Revolution’/ ‘No Girls For Billy’. This single was destined for the UK top 10, however at the eleven hour the single was withdrawn due to a dispute between The Head and the record company.
Other gems included are the ‘lost’ Quarry Hanger Tapes. These have been digitally remastered back to all their original glory. There is the superior version of ‘Middle Class Revolution’, the quirky ‘Outer Space’, the eastern influenced ‘Cheap Romantic’ and the tongue in cheek, ‘My Girlfriend Loves Billy Idol’.
The entire Granny Sessions are also represented, with the inclusion of the original versions of ‘No Girls For Billy’ and ‘Middle Class Revolution’; the anti drug song ‘It’s Fun To Die’; the pop reverse romantic of ‘I Don’t Think You Love Me’ and the Garry Bushell inspired song ‘Sounds Like Sounds’.
Extras include ‘MCR 2007’ the pb mix and for the CD, the Head slide show featuring ’Nothing To Do In A Town Like Leatherhead’, which includes many photos of the band that have never been seen before.
