THE SHOPLIFTERS WERE THE REAL DEAL!
Wow...ZER.... Detour Records off-shoot label "ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN" are very proud to announce the release of this PUNK ROCK long lost classic!
The seed for the Shoplifters was sown back as early as 1976 with some of the band members being at Northampton Art College together, one thing led to another and further members were introduced by mates. Being influenced what was happening in London, they set about writing a set.
1976 came and went and the band kicked off in 1977 with frantic rehearsals. The bands first gig was in May that year in their home town at the 'Racehorse' pub in Northampton. Then another one at the 'Black Lion'. As Punk took hold and it started spreading like a wild fire through-out the UK, the band ventured further a field any even played two gigs at the famous Roxy Club down in London.
Sadly after a whirlwind of less then two years it was ALL OVER as quickly as it came…. It was a quick death!
The bands last appearance was in December '78 back in their home town at the 'Racecourse'. The support band that night was a newly formed band from Northampton called BAUHAUS 1919. The bass player, Chris B Bacon from the Shoplifters was then drafted into Bauhaus 1919 to form an early version of BAUHAUS.
It may of been a whirlwind two years, but the band shone brightly for a short while but they have certainly left there mark in history as they recorded these 14 tracks in 1977 and here for the first time EVER you can hear these remarkable tracks that have been taken direct off the MASTER TAPES. The tracks maybe short but are honest and to the point!
This band was the REAL DEAL, no band wagon jumpers, no previous bands to mention.
